Doggie Doors in Your Home

If your dog lives indoors, you know how much time you can expend taking your dog in and out in order to use the restroom. If you work all day, you probably come home to many accidents that you need to clean up. Installing a doggie door can make your life easier, give your dog more freedom, and alleviate accidents in the home.

There are many different types of doggie doors on the market that will fit any type of door; there are even models that can work with sliding glass doors. When shopping for this product there a many variables that you will need to consider in order to choose the right model for your needs. The size of your dog, what part of the country you live in, and whether you own or rent your home will all play a part in the decision making process.

For those that live in warm climates a simple door with a rubber “flap” should be sufficient because you do not have to worry so much about insulating factors. For those that live where winters are cold you will need a model that seals out the cold better, these models cost more but they will pay for themselves in energy savings. If you rent your home, you will need one of the models that use “temporary” installation methods. These are the most expensive types of doggie doors because they have a higher level of manufacturing in order to make them work without cutting any holes in existing doors.

For those that live in the north, or anyone that wants their door to seal tight, you will need a high quality door. There is a model on the market that seals very tight, this door will operate via a sensor that opens the door as your dog approaches the door, and closes the door once the dog is outside. This is an expensive model that requires some in-depth installation, but it can be worth every penny in the time, effort, and energy savings it will provide.
